Personal Goals for my MLIS
So here I am, rambling for my second blog post. Today I am going to talk to you about my goals through my MLIS studies:
- Get my actual degree! I plan on being in the public library profession for the rest of my life. Right now I am at my highest level of achievement at work and if I want to move higher I will have to have a masters degree. Right now I am perfectly happy at the position I'm in, but I will always regret it if I don't get the degree and never get the chance to move higher.
- I want to learn a little more about technology. I am able to help library patrons right now. Most of the patrons just need a little help with printing or copying and pasting, but I would love to have a little extra knowledge to help co-workers, or help with a project.
- My personal philosophy about the library and about information science in general is this: Customer Service!!! I have always worked in the customer service field and know how to treat people. It is no different in a library. Yes, of course you must be nice and friendly to the customers (lets do away with the image of the crabby librarian!). But you also have to know technology-or at least be willing to learn so you can help the customer. In my opinion, there is always more to learn.
- And finally, my ultimate goal is to Get my Degree! Have I mentioned that one before? Oh, well I think it's worth mentioning again. My life is crazy busy right now; moving into a new home, trying to run a household, taking care of my family, trying to go back to school to get a degree, and learn time management in order to work on everything that comes with getting that degree. So it would be a huge sense of self accomplishment if I can finish my degree in the less than 3 years time frame I gave myself.

| Why did I throw in a picture of my cat, Annie? Well, I didn't really feel any pictures were appropriate for my entry this week and I wanted to have something to make you smile, so what better thing to make you smile than an animal? |
